Valentine Garland
Simple Salt Dough Recipe
2 cups all purpose white flour
1 cup salt
3/4 cup water
Preheat oven to 200 degrees F.
Stir flour and salt together in a medium bowl. Stir in water until mixture comes together, adding a little more water if it is still too crumbly. Knead until smooth.
Roll out and cut into shapes using cookie cutters and place on a cookie sheet. Use a small dowel (a small paintbrush works nicely) to poke holes where you would like to hang the shapes. I found 2 holes worked best for hearts so they would face forward rather than sideways. Bake 20 minutes, flipping once half-way through.
Allow shapes to cool and then paint and glitter them, draw on them with markers, etc.
For the garland:
Thread twine or ribbon through the holes in the ornaments and hang up!
Beautiful!!!! I love this! I just did one with chubby felt hearts! So fun!!!
So pretty, Marina! I love this idea!
So beautiful!
Marina – this is so cute. I'm totally going to do this with Ave.
This is wonderful!!! You have the greatest ideas, Marina!

What a cute idea. I love the simple twine stringing the hearts together.
Great new header.

This is such an adorable idea. I can totally see my flatmates and me decorating our flat with these garlands 🙂
Thank you for bringing back this centuries old craft! Safe for kids and our environment in general, yet fun material. About 7 years back I was at art exhibition, and the whole section was devoted to miniatures and sculptures, made of salt, flour and water. Gorgeous hearts! 🙂
Super cute! Ah, glitter . . . so pretty yet so EVERYWHERE! : )
Super cute idea! I wonder if I can get my boys to do this? I need valentines day just so I can get some pink into our house. Sally x
I love salt dough! I still have the salt dough heart necklaces my girls made for me in pre-school. I love the array of beautiful pinks, and the garland is perfect.
Sooo Pretty! Making it with the kiddies for sure!
Super cute Marina! What a fun Valentine's Day craft!

This is a craft you can do with any age group, that is why I love it! Will be making this funtastic craft with my 'lil peanut of 13 yrs.

what a sweet idea – I bet Stella will love to do this, she can never have too much glitter
These are so cute Marina.
And even I, Enemy To All Dough, could probably manage this recipe.
(Your salt dough looks like my attempt at puff pastry)

Thanks for the idea Marina! I made this this weekend and now the area above our buffet looks pretty and festive! My son painted a total of 2 out of the 40-odd hearts but that didn't stop me!
