This Columbia River Gorge waterfalls road trip takes you from Portland past Latourell Falls, Bridal Veil Falls, and Multnomah Falls before crossing into Washington for a cozy cabin stay near Stevenson and Carson. The Columbia River Gorge had been on my travel list for years, and it was even more beautiful and atmospheric than I imagined. I flew into Portland, rented a car at the airport, and drove the Historic Columbia River Highway past misty forests, moss-covered cliffs, and some of Oregon’s most beautiful waterfalls.

I visited in December on a drizzly weekend, which turned out to be perfect. The clouds and light rain created the moody Pacific Northwest—or Twilight—vibe I was hoping for, and the waterfalls were flowing beautifully. Even better, I avoided the large crowds this route can attract during warmer months.
