Pumpkin Pie Dessert Hummus
This pumpkin pie dip, or “dessert hummus” is a delicious and festive autumn snack perfect for after school! This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Back To Nature Foods for IZEA. All opinions are 100% mine.
The back-to-school season is so much fun. Autumn suddenly seems so close. On our drive home from school we pass a field of corn behind bright orange pumpkins emerging from under leafy vines. The leaves on our liquid amber tree are starting to turn orange, and we are all excited for pumpkin spice everything.
For a quick and easy after school snack this week we made pumpkin pie dessert hummus. Sound weird? Hear me out. Dessert hummus is in fact a thing. My friend Happy Food Healthy Life made this Snickerdoodle Dessert Hummus, and my friend My Whole Food Life made this Brownie Batter Hummus. It’s quite brilliant, really. Dessert hummus, is really just a sweet dip made with chickpeas, sweetener, and other flavorful ingredients. The great thing about dessert hummus is that even though it is a sweet treat, it has some great nutrition going on too. After a long day at school my kids come home ravenous! This dessert hummus is a great after school snack because the protein from the chickpeas makes it incredibly filling, so they are satisfied until dinnertime.
Pumpkin pie dessert hummus is perfect for when you don’t have time to make a whole Vegan Pumpkin Pie, Gluten Free Pumpkin Muffins, or Vegan Pumpkin Bread.
Most of us probably think of hummus as a savory food, but chickpeas are so versatile they work for sweet foods too! This dessert hummus is made with simple real ingredients and is perfect for dipping. My favorite dipper for this pumpkin hummus is Back to Nature Honey Graham Sticks. My kids love these bags of grahams as a special treat in their lunch boxes and they make this dip taste just like pumpkin pie. The graham sticks are like little mini pumpkin pie crusts. I love that these snacks are non-GMO certified and made with simple ingredients.
Homemade hummus is so easy, whether it’s sweet like this one or a traditional savory hummus. All the ingredients get tossed in the food processor or blender and whirled together until very smooth. All there is left to do is transfer to a serving bowl, add some dippers, and get snacking!
Pumpkin pie dessert hummus makes a delicious after-school or anytime treat that’s filled with protein, fiber, and even some squash. It comes together in under 10 minutes and is so satisfying. Try it for a post-workout treat, kids’ snack, or when you just crave a little pumpkin pie sweetness. If you’d like to try making your own pumpkin puree, learn how here!

Do you think almond butter would substitute Okay for the cashew butter?
Hi Kathy, almond butter might make this taste nutty, whereas the cashew is so mild you can’t taste it. Let us know if you try it!
How long will this last in the fridge?
