Green Tea Shot Recipe
Learn how to make a tipsy Green Tea Shot with this simple yet classic recipe made with Jameson whiskey. This recipe includes alcohol and is for 21+ readers only.
Okay, so most of the shot recipes on this site are of the wellness variety: ACV shots, ginger shots, and turmeric shots. This recipe is a different sort and has been requested by some of my hip and fun college-age readers. And I do love a good cocktail, in moderation, of course. We’ve shared a few already: Mulled Wine, Classic Aperol Spritz, Limoncello Spritzers, Classic Margaritas, and my favorite Clean Wines.
While at a piano bar recently I noticed a few people imbibing in these green tea shots and checked in with the bartender about how to make them. Here’s the classic green tea shot recipe for all my party people (who are over 21).
What is a Green Tea Shot?
Created by Jameson, this pale yellow-green whiskey-based alcohol shot is sweet and does not taste like green tea. It actually tastes like peach, lemon, and lime. It reminds me a bit of limoncello. It’s served in a shot glass, which is usually 1 or 2 ounces. Learn more about ounces, cups, and other measurements here.
This would be a fun St. Patrick’s Day cocktail, given it’s made with Irish whiskey.
Green tea shots typically cost around $10 in U.S. bars. It’s a fun and easy cocktail shot to make a home when you have friends over, however.
What’s in a Green Tea Shot?
While the name might suggest green tea is included in this recipe, it’s based on the color of the drink only. If you love green tea, try our Matcha Lattes or Matcha Smoothie Bowls.
Green tea shots are made with a few simple cocktail ingredients:
- Jameson Irish Whiskey
- Peach Schnapps
- Sweet and Sour
This is all topped off with a splash of lemon-lime soda such as Sprite, 7-Up, or a lower-calorie version like Zevia. I would actually recommend using lime sparkling water, however, as the liqueurs are sweet enough.
Though I typically provide recommendations for healthier substitutions I recommend making the way Jameson created it. I like to swap sweet and sour with agave and fresh lemon and lime juice, though in this recipe it would result in a green tea shot that doesn’t resemble green tea.
How to Make a Green Tea Shot
This cocktail couldn’t be simpler to make! Precise measuring is not needed and it’s easy to increase the amount made, as it’s a simple 1:1:1 ratio.
Shake the three main ingredients together vigorously with ice in a shaker until cold and combined. Shakers are great for cocktails because they make them super cold without watering them down. Pour into a shot glass and sip or shoot! You can give your drinks a bit more pizzazz by garnishing with a lime or mint sprig.

Add a squeeze of fresh lime for freshness.
You can pre-make a larger batch of this for parties. Follow the ratio above (1:1:1) and chill in the refrigerator. Add the soda just before serving.
