Snow Globe Cocktail
Learn how to make the most festive drink of the season – a snow globe cocktail (or mocktail) with a rosemary Christmas tree in the middle!
When it comes to holiday drinks, nothing is quite as festive and fun as a Snow Globe Cocktail. With its natural rosemary “tree” encased in ice and floating pomegranate “ornaments,” this drink is as festive as it is refreshing.
Whether hosting a Christmas dinner or looking to elevate your holiday happy hour, this viral cocktail trend will impress your guests while being simple to create.
Why You’ll Love This Christmas Cocktail
- Show-Stopping Presentation: A sparkling drink with an icy “snow globe” effect will wow your guests. It’s sure to be a conversation starter!
- Customizable for Any Drink: Whether you’re pouring Champagne, kombucha, or sparkling water, this drink can be made as festive or as casual as you like.
- Easy to Make Ahead: Prep the rosemary Christmas trees in advance so you only need to pour and serve.
What You’ll Need
Here’s everything you’ll need to create your magical Snow Globe Cocktail:
- Room temperature water: For forming the ice base.
- Fresh rosemary sprigs: These act as your “Christmas trees” inside the snow globe. Choose bushy sprigs as they will be the most stable in the glass.
- Twine or yarn and tape: To help secure the rosemary sprigs if needed.
- Pomegranate seeds: Vibrant red “ornaments” that add flavor and festive color.
- Clear sparkling beverage: Options include Champagne, sparkling water, kombucha, or ginger beer.
- Stemless wine glasses or champagne flutes: Freezer-safe glasses work best for this recipe.
How to Make a Snow Globe Cocktail
Step 1: Prep the Ice “Snow Globe”
- Fill a freezer-safe stemless wine glass or champagne flute with 1 inch of room-temperature water.
- Place a rosemary sprig upside-down in the water. For the best results, snip the top of the rosemary sprig so it has a flat base and stands upright.
- If the rosemary doesn’t stay upright, tie twine around the top of the tree, across the top of the glass, and secure it with tape to hold it in place.
Step 2: Freeze
- Place the glass in the freezer and let it freeze for about 1 hour or until the water is solid.
Step 3: Assemble the Cocktail
- Once the water is frozen, carefully remove the tape and twine, leaving your rosemary sprig standing in the ice.
- Before serving, fill the glass with your chosen sparkling beverage or cocktail recipe. Champagne is a classic option, but sparkling water or kombucha makes a delicious mocktail.
- Sprinkle in a few pomegranate seeds for a festive finishing touch.
Step 4: Serve and Enjoy!
- Serve immediately, and let your guests admire the frosty “snow globe” effect as they sip. After about 15 minutes, the ice at the bottom will melt and detach from the glass.
Cocktail Recipe Ideas for Your Snow Globe Drinks
The Snow Globe Cocktail is incredibly versatile! While I recommend sparkling wine such as Champagne, any clear cocktail will work. Here are some ideas to tailor it to your holiday celebrations:
- Classic Champagne Snow Globe
- Fill your icy glass with a brut Champagne or prosecco for a sparkling, elegant option.
- Apple Kombucha Mocktail
- Combine apple-flavored kombucha with a splash of sparkling water for a festive alcohol-free treat.
- Virgin Snow Globe Mule
- Swap the Champagne for ginger beer and add a dash of lime juice for a zesty twist. Here’s our Virgin Moscow Mule Recipe.
- Gin and Tonic Snow Globe
- Pour a classic gin and tonic over your icy snow globe base for a refreshing and botanical twist. Add a squeeze of lime for extra zest. A classic gin and tonic combines 2 ounces of gin with 4-6 ounces of tonic water over ice, garnished with a wedge or slice of lime.
