I can’t believe it’s already back-to-school time! It’s such a fun and exciting time, but I’ll be honest, it stresses me out a little too. Getting kids’ breakfasts and lunches made, finding that stray shoe the dog hid under a bush, and everyone out the door on time can feel like a marathon! After-school time can feel the same way when rushing from work to school to dance class and trying to get a nourishing snack into hungry tummies while wriggling into ballet tights.

I had just been thinking about some parenting hacks to make getting ready for school and after school activities a little smoother when Revolution Foods sent me some of their lunch bundles. Given the amount of food a family can go through, organizing the pantry and refrigerator so that kids can help themselves is one of my favorite mom-hacks. Any parent knows that, “I need a snack!” is a favorite kid phrase. Being able to reply, “help yourself!” is a major sanity saver. So this week I got organized and am sharing some of the real food prep ideas to hopefully make your life a little easier during this busy season too.

I notice that when I have snacks prepped and ready to go at their eye level, my kids choose better foods. When they open the fridge or pantry and immediately see fresh fruit, carrot sticks, washed berries, energy balls, and snack packs, they will happily grab those instead of processed junk foods. Cutting up fresh fruits and veggies takes just a few minutes and save so much time on busy mornings. I store carrot and celery sticks in water. Berries stay fresh longer after a rinse in 1 cup of vinegar diluted with 3 cups water. I put them in little grab-and-go cups for snacking or adding to chia pudding, another easy prep-ahead favorite.

The Lunch Bundles from Revolution Foods are a real food lunch solution for busy families and they’ve made our last days of summer so easy. When at the last minute my kids wanted to hit the pool and I didn’t have time to pack a snack, it was great toss the Sundipper pack and a few apples into my pool bag. I am so pleased to see that there are wholesome options for prepackaged lunches that are made without any artificial flavors or preservatives. I had no idea there was such a thing! I also love that Revolution Foods donates 1% of sales to help schools provide fresh meals, and the company focuses on nurturing healthier habits through food education in schools.
