To celebrate it’s 150th birthday, Breyers ice cream partnered with celebrity chef Curtis Stone and his wife, Lindsay Price Stone, to create a seasonal recipe for each month of the year. And they are sharing the delicious August inspired recipe with us! Spice Roasted Figs with Hazelnuts and Vanilla Ice Cream is such a tasty dessert perfect for warm August nights. Fresh figs can be difficult to find during the year, but are in season now. Every year when I see fresh figs pop up in markets I have to grab a bunch. I love fresh figs on cheese boards, in panini, and recently, on ice cream! This is a wonderful recipe that lets beautiful August figs take center stage. The summer is going by so quickly, I loved stopping for a moment to savor some of the season’s best produce in this dreamy treat.

Figs come in a few different varieties, with skins ranging from green to purple to black. This week I found some gorgeous figs at our Saturday farmers market. The farmer was able to describe the differences between his three types of figs. For this recipe I went with one of his firmer varieties so they would hold up under the broiler. The green skinned figs would look stunning too.

This is such a simple, beautiful recipe. Warm spices get mixed with some sugar to coat the cut sides of the fig halves. I knew this recipe was going to be incredible the moment I smelled the warm, aromatic spices. The spiced sugar coating gets nice and caramelized after a few minutes under the broiler.

The spices are perfect with a pure, simple vanilla ice cream. My whole family commented on how tasty Breyers Natural Vanilla was. My favorite vanilla ice creams always have flecks of vanilla bean and are made with real simple ingredients. All Breyers vanilla is real and from sustainably farmed, Rainforest Alliance Certified™ vanilla beans, and only sources milk and cream from cows not treated with artificial growth hormones*
