Valentine’s Day Tradition: Heart Shaped Pizza
I would love to tell you about my fabulous plans for a glamorous Valentine’s Day. Plans that include being whisked away to Paris in Louboutins…
But the truth is, our Valentine’s Day tradition is very simple. We always stay home. And I always make a heart shaped pizza. I wouldn’t have it any other way. I love date night, but really we are happiest at home with our loves.
Date night is important, and Friday night we did have one of those fabulous nights out. Mimi and Papa tucked the kids into bed while Yummy Hubby and I went to “wine camp” at the prestigious Burnim Wood golf club in Montecito. The hilarious and informative Mark Oldman was the teacher for the evening. Did you know there is sparkling red wine? I find the wine world a little intimidating, and I love how Mark makes it accessible to those of us who are not wine snobs.
The range of colors in glasses lining long tables was breathtakingly beautiful. Cheese, olives, Italian meats, and breads were served for snacking.
The sunsets have been breathtaking the past few days too.
I wish you a Valentine’s Day filled with love.
Heart Shaped Pizza
1 prepared pizza dough
favorite sauce
fresh mozzarella cheese, drained and sliced
freshly grated Parmesan cheese
favorite toppings
Preheat oven and a pizza stone to 550 degrees for at least one hour. Have dough in a lightly greased bowl covered with a towel while oven is preheating.
Place pizza dough on a lightly floured piece of parchment paper. Stretch dough into a heart shape. Trim with a knife as needed. Spread sauce over dough and top with favorite cheese and toppings. We use a cookie cutter to punch a heart shape out of a red bell pepper. Transfer pizza and parchment (will help keep the heart shape) to the hot pizza stone. Cook 8-10 minutes or until crust is brown and cheese is bubbly.
I. LOVE. THIS.
the heart shape is such a great idea…a bite of love indeed 😉
This is amazing, I think I might do this this year 🙂
Ok, this is the best Valentines post I have seen on the web, honestly. I love all the sweet treats, but this is something I will actually make. I might have to copy you on this like I did your baked spaghetti. My kids and hubby will get a kick out of this and I love that it's an easy weeknight meal to prepare. My daughter is at Lacrosse till 6:15 tomorrow so this will be the perfect surprise for her when she gets home.
Uber cute.
Aw, Marina – this is so sweet! I love traditions and a heart-shaped pizza + staying home sounds like a great one. We also stay home and I whip up a gourmet dinner + dessert (well…I try to anyway!) It's so much fun.
Happy Valentine's Day to you and your family 🙂
XO – Marion
How wonderful, Marina! I absolutely agree with you that Valentines at home is the happiest time. We went out for Valentines once, nothing romantic was there: loud crowd, people squeezed in the restaurant to it's limit. We never even though to go out for Valentines anymore. I have a sweet surprise for my family, and I think it will beat any restaurant… 🙂
What a sweet idea. Love your heart shaped pizza! My Italian man would love it!
My favorite simple Valentine post this week – thanks! Think I'll try that over a campfire as we try “luxury camping” this week at El Capitan Canyon.
Have fun at El Cap! That is definitely camping or “glamping” I would be up for!
My Italian man loves it too 🙂
Oooh, can't wait to see what you make!
How adorable! The pizza looks amazing!! Your date night sounds so nice and romantic. Happy Valentine's Day!
Such a cute idea!
My FIL brought over ricotta filled heart shaped pasta for tomorrow evening…mmmm.
Marina,
I love the idea of heart shaped pizza. Hubby would like it too. It reminded me of one my early-marriage Halloween meals I prepared…I got a little carried away using pumpkin in the soup, cookies and what not. I don't imagine there would be any protest over heart shaped pizza dough and heart shaped goodies on the pizza! 🙂
Happy Valentine's Day.
Karen
So adorable-my children and entire family would love pizza in the shape of a heart!
That pizza looks delicious, and it's so cute!
that table full of wine makes my heart go pittter patter. Love the pizza, pretty darn cute!
So glad you mentioned that Birnam Wood is a “prestigious” club…very important for people to know…REALLY! Being humble is truly a gift.
I am so in love with this!!
The wine camp sounds like such fun, I'm so glad you grabbed a shot of that table. The wine colors are like jewels. I'm sure it couldn't compare to your night in with that delicious pizza though—we're the same way…
Wonderful pictures! The pizza looks amazing!
I had the same idea except I was going to do cut some pepperoni into heart shapes too:) love it
Making it in the shape of the heart makes it tastes better. 🙂
Wonderful post.
