Salad Dressing Recipes
Here you’ll find 15 easy, healthy, vegan homemade salad dressing recipes you need to know.
Salad dressing is one of those things that I spent most of my adult life purchasing. I quickly realized, however, that many of those contained unnecessary fillers, sugars, preservatives, and too much oil and sodium.
Making homemade salad dressing is easy, and the result is often healthier and tastier. So I wanted to share 15 of my favorite salad dressing recipes to help us all eat a little more veggies, in a delicious way, and prove that salad should never be boring. In addition to salad dressing, I often simply add a dollop of homemade salsa, guacamole, or hummus to salad bowls for quick flavor and nutrition.
How to Make Vinaigrette Salad Dressing Recipes
There’s a basic method for concocting your own tasty signature salad dressing. Thinner vinaigrette type dressing is best for pasta salad and lettuce-free salads like Greek Chickpea Salad, where you don’t really want to see the dressing. Here are the elements:
- Oil (extra virgin olive oil, avocado oil)
- Acid (red wine vinegar, balsamic vinegar, lemon juice, etc.)
- Flavor (Dijon mustard, dried or fresh herbs, garlic, ginger, capers, etc.)
- salt and pepper to taste
How to Make Creamy Salad Dressing Recipes
Start with the vinaigrette method above, but add one creamy element. Here are some good choices:
- avocado
- soaked raw cashews
- vegan mayo
- tahini
- hummus
Tips for Making Homemade Salad Dressings
- When using liquids and finely chopped herbs/spices, a whisk and small bowl work well. When using larger ingredients like shallots, a blender makes the process quicker.
- Store homemade salad dressing in an airtight container in the fridge. Mason jars work well.
- How long it lasts will depend on the specific ingredients, but a balsamic or apple cider vinaigrette should last about 2 weeks, while creamy dressings last about 1 week.
