Apple Cider Vinegar Drink
My favorite refreshing and energizing apple cider vinegar drink recipe. This apple cider vinegar drink is made with Bragg ACV, water, lemon, and sweetened with stevia. I use it for detox and weight loss.
Most foodie bloggers would probably say to hold off on posting a “healthy” recipe until January and go all out on the indulgent holiday recipes. While the holidays are a time I definitely indulge a bit more (I’ll admit to raiding my kids’ Halloween baskets just this morning), I try to stick to a healthy lifestyle most of the time. Because we all deserve to feel good. Any time of year.
I’ve been trying to cut back on coffee lately and just stick to the one cup in the morning. Instead, I’ve been making an apple cider vinegar drink. I’ve found it to be just the pick-me-up I need in the afternoons, and wanted to share it with you. This apple cider vinegar drink recipe is quick and easy to make, tangy, and refreshing. Before we jump into the recipe, let’s talk about apple cider vinegar. What is Apple Cider Vinegar
Apple cider vinegar (ACV) is simply vinegar made with apples. Fresh crushed apples are allowed to ferment naturally in wooden barrels. When choosing apple cider vinegar for health, always get one that says “with the mother.” It may sound funny at first, but the “mother” is the naturally occurring murky pieces in the vinegar. Many of the healthy nutrients live in these mother enzymes.
Unfortunately many vinegar producers distill their product, killing the mother nutrients. The highest quality ACV I know of is from Bragg, though there are generic versions at Whole Foods and Trader Joe’s. I like Bragg because their ACV is made with organic apples and contains the mother enzymes. This post is not sponsored, but the Braggs are Santa Barbara locals.
Though it’s gained mainstream popularity in the last decade, natural apple cider vinegar has been used for a very long time. On my bottle it says, “In 400 B.C. Hippocrates, the Father of Medicine, used it for its amazing natural qualities.” Apples are rich in potassium and enzymes. You know the old saying, “An apple a day keeps the doctor away.”
Benefits of Drinking Apple Cider Vinegar
Apple cider vinegar has many uses beyond this lovely drink recipe. I’ve used it to help with ear infections, fungal problems, and even as a facial toner, with great success. According to the book, Apple Cider Vinegar: Miracle Health System, by Paul and Patricia Bragg, some benefits of drinking apple cider vinegar include:
- Improved Digestion
- Weight Loss and Management
- Fight Kidney and Bladder Problems
- Good for the Heart
- Aids in Body Purification
The book goes into great detail about these and other apple cider vinegar health benefits. I most often hear of people drinking ACV for detoxification and/or weight loss. The science seems to back up the claim that it may help with weight loss, according to one recent study.
How to Make an Apple Cider Vinegar Drink
Really all you need to make an apple cider vinegar drink are organic apple cider vinegar and water. I like to sweeten this up with liquid stevia, but you could also use honey or your favorite sweetener. I love to add fresh lemon juice so that this apple cider vinegar drink tastes like lemonade. Lemons have health benefits of their own, including a nice mood boost.
Apple Cider Vinegar Drink Recipe Variations
This lemonade version is my go-to, but I like to switch up the flavors sometimes too. I like to add:
- splash of pomegranate juice
- squeeze of orange juice
- muddled strawberries
- muddled fresh mint leaves
- grated fresh ginger
- sparkling water

Final note: While I personally find this to be a health-promoting beverage, some people, such as those with kidney disease, don’t do well with acidic foods or drinks and should exercise moderation and caution. Also, some like to follow ACV drinks with water to protect tooth enamel.

i AM A HEALTH AND FITNESS PERSON AND I HAVE BENEFITED FROM THIS DRINK AND PREPARATION OF APPLE CIDER VINEGAR.
Hi! i’m still behind reading your blog. i heat water and let is cool down for 30 min, stir in raw cold packed honey (from Farmers in S.B), add applecider vinegar and a wedge of lemon. it helps when i have heartburn. the belief is that this is an acidic drink, but i believe it’s alkaline based on the chemistries mixing together. but it doesn’t work for everyone, but it works for me and many of my friends. i use to drink it every morning, but i have gotten so lazy. this post reminded me i should start drinking it again! thank you!
Thank you for the informations. Actually, I’m not a fan of apple cider vinegar, but I’ll try. Green tea is one of my favorite teas and I drink it at least twice a day. I have also heard about detox tees and especially red tea to help you lose weight. Maybe it helps someone. I wish you a nice day.
I mixed with green tea & honey
Thanks for the recipe. I’ve been meaning to try this!
Am looking forward to your recipes for healthy food
You only SHOW a study to back up the weight loss claim. The fact that you use the term “detox” or “purify” completely discredits any credibility. THere is no such thing as detox, scientifically speaking. “Good for the heart?” What does that mean? “Improve digestion?” ALl of these claims are pseudoscience. The Bragg book is also laughable pseudoscience.
Thanks. to clarify, I have made NO health claims. Just shared a recipe that many people enjoy, and quoted people I enjoy, the Braggs.
If you’re going to bash someone’s opinion based on their experience perhaps you should look closer at their written opinion as it is clearly stated that is what the post is, you might also proof read the spelling in your unwarranted comments. You should try some sort of mood booster I think. Personally I found the recipe interesting as I searched google for something like this to sip on when my body thinks it’s hungry but it’s not, it’s just craving flavor.
Actually Briana hun, drinking acv has been proven to higher the acidity level of your stomach acid which in turn helps the digestion process by lowering the amount of solid food entering the small intestine causing bloating and other gut issues.
I have severe heartburn and IBS and my doctor told me to drink 1 tbsp in warm water twice a day and it works to make it feel better because it balances out the acid that heartburn and gastritis contain. There is your health benefit.
I think these drinks look delightful and I can’t wait to try them!
STOP JUST STOP! If you don’t like what is posted then get off of the site! People like you are so miserable that you are not happy unless you are making someone else miserable. GO AWAY! and let people try things for themselves.
Should we take detox water overnight and aftee that before drinking add acv ? Has any bad impact on health?
Didn’t your mother teach you, “if you don’t have something nice to say don’t say anything at all?“
That was to brianna’s unwarranted comment. No you, Cecelia!
Didn’t your mother teach you, “if you don’t have something nice to say don’t say anything at all?“
Perhaps you’re looking for a short cut, or over-night weight-loss potion, and this isn’t it. You have to practice very good eating habits and you have to exercise. No two ways about it. These detox drinks are effective for many people, but as you will read in many of these posts, they don’t work for everyone … perhaps you’re included. Thank positive thoughts,, smile and say “hello” to your neighbor, and good things will come your way 🙂
If you have nothing nice to say just say nothing!
Hmm. Jog on Jenny if this post isn’t for you. Be at peace with your inner demons or your Negativity may consume you.
Briana,
If science was the answer…no one would get sick (Pharma/$$$). Have you ever wonder why people look elsewhere for answer to medical issues?
It’s that laughable you obviously took time reading it
How many times a day can you safely drink this
I mixed 8 oz of water with 1/2 Tbs of the Braggs and one and a half scoops of my slim fast bc I’ve had a very good success with slim fast will this give me the same benefits as I did use water instead of milk.
I loved the lemonade version the most. Is it okay to drink it daily? I stay in An extremely dry climate
I am definately going to try this ACV recipe I hope will reverse the levels of the elements that may cause me to have cancer . As my doctors said I need to lose weight change my diet eat more like vegans foods. I also have acid reflux and digestive issues . I believe once I lose weight and change my diet completely this ACV recipe will help putting everything in motion with the potion.
I would like to try
If nothing else. Apple cider and a shot of lemon juice in my tea every morning takes the place of the sweetener I always used.
It has a great taste. What ever other benefits I receive is a Bonus. Give it a try before you knock it.
Pete
I love this recipe!!! I struggle to get my acv down daily – this is the hot ticket….thank you so much for sharing =]
Carla
Apple cider vinegar is very beneficial for health and you are sharing such a great recipe to make it. I will definitely try this recipe. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for being you
Thank you for this recipe. I agree with one of the commenters about Apple cider vinegar helping with IBS and heartburn. I suffer from this as well and apple cider vinegar is always helped.
i Make tea dont use sugar i use honey about 3 tablespoon and 4 tablespoons of acv it tastes like sweet tea with lemon
When is the best time to drink the ACV drink? and how often?
I would love a variety of ACV drink recipes— people have said they use cinnamon, lemon or lime, ACV, water and ice—-any other suggestions since the acv taste is not so great.
Thanks Debbie! I actually do have more.
