A beautiful Halloween inspired party platter filled with healthier orange and black ingredients. From grapes to olives, red pepper hummus, and tangerine pumpkins, this party board is perfect for any Halloween Party.

It’s almost that time – Halloween! My kids look forward to Halloween all month. Staying up late playing with friends and gathering candy? What could be more exciting to a little one? I’m not sharing too many Halloween recipes this year, but wanted to share one favorite Halloween food idea.

It’s not just the kids that get to have the fun though. I love catching up with my friends on Halloween too. One of my favorite things to make right now for get-togethers is a big party platter/cheese board/charcuterie. Remember the one I made with fresh Spring Rolls? Then there was the Mediterranean Hummus Mezze Platter, Spanish Cheese Board, and Family Snack Platter. Oh, and the one with the Vegan Spinach Artichoke Dip was another favorite.

For this Halloween inspired finger food appetizer party platter, I loaded up my grocery cart with “orange and black” colored foods. In nature, there aren’t many pure black foods, so I was a bit flexible with what I used for black. Let’s take a closer look at these Halloween food ideas!

There are so many options here, but some of my favorite dark and orange foods to add to our appetizer party platter include:

  • Boo chips
  • Red pepper or pumpkin hummus
  • Black bean dip
  • Tangerine pumpkins
  • (dairy-free) soft cheese
  • Carrots
  • Orange bell pepper
  • Blackberry-canteloupe skewers
  • Blueberries
  • Mini pumpkins
  • Orange slices
  • kumquats
  • Fuyu persimmons
  • Dried apricots
  • Figs
  • Nuts
  • Black grapes
  • dark chocolate
  • baguette slices or crackers
  • Olives
  • Kumquat jam
Tangerine pumpkins made with cuties and a piece of celery for the stem.

Tangerine Pumpkins

I’m sure you’ve seen these before, but they are so cute I make them year after year. Simply peel a small tangerine such as Cuties or Halos, and pop a small piece of celery in the center for the stem.

Boo Chips

No, this is not sponsored. My kids get so excited each year when boo chips show up at Whole Foods and Trader Joe’s. They are made out of potato flour and potato starch, with some oil, salt and sugar. While they are more processed than I usually like, they are so fun for Halloween I let the kids get them. Blue corn chips are fun too (we call them bat wings).

A cute Halloween spider made out of an olive on top of crostini and cheese. What a cute and delicious Halloween party appetizer finger food idea.

Olive Spider Crostini

I love these cute spider toasts! Spread a layer of soft cheese (I love kite hill, Miyoko’s, and Heidi Ho nut-based dairy-free versions) and top with a black olive halved lengthwise and 8 spider “legs” cut from the other halves.

Halloween Party Platter

Ingredients

  • 1 bag Boo chips
  • 1 container Red pepper or pumpkin hummus
  • 5 Tangerine pumpkins
  • 1 (dairy-free) soft cheese
  • fig jam
  • 1/2 pint Blackberries
  • 1/2 pint Blueberries
  • 2 Mini white pumpkins
  • 2 oranges (sliced)
  • 1 bunch kumquats
  • 2-3 Fuyu persimmons
  • 1 cup Dried apricots
  • Nuts (2 varieties)
  • 1 bunch dark purple grapes
  • 1 bar dark chocolate, broken into pieces
  • baguette slices or crackers
  • 1 cup Olives

Instructions

  1. Choose a large cutting board or tray. I used a baking sheet so that this platter was easily portable.
  2. Arrange the largest ingredients first. Work around the platter until every space is filled, adding the smaller ingredients last. Garnish with fresh herbs like rosemary.
